Another year! Another blog post! We at least remember to do these annual ones as our Christmas Card "newsletter." 2017 was a year full of milestones which naturally means there were endings and beginnings, and plenty of transitions. There was plenty of travel thanks to work, interviews, and thankfully, vacation! It was a treat to see many family and friends this past year which hadn't happened due to med school scheduling, and probably won't happen as liberally in the next few years due to residency. But we'll take whatever we can get :)
After uncountable hours of studying, clinical rotations, and worrying about the Match, Olivia graduated from medical school! Yay Dr. Yost! It was bittersweet knowing that her good friends were going to be all over the country for residency and the last days were packed with ice cream trips, trivia nights, and dinners at King David's and Tully's before everyone went their separate ways after commencement. For fun, here's a then and now photo of Yuxin at I after 4 years of medical school ....
The end of medical school and moving on to Michigan meant the end of our time in Upstate NY. This was even more bittersweet given our community found at Missio Church - and this was probably the hardest part about leaving (though leaving Wegmans would probably come in second place). Missio was a place where we grew and learned to serve and lead as a couple as well as on our own through dear friends from discipleship groups and our small group.
Our Sunday night small group is pictured on the right - it was a group that just grew and grew throughout our time in Syracuse to the point where we didn't quite fit in our apartment anymore!
Beginnings and Transitions
We moved to Michigan! Residency started! Kyle transferred to the EY Detroit Office!
Residency has been really busy, as expected. Olivia has been through the pediatric emergency department, the newborn service, nights and days on labor and delivery, and now she's in the adult emergency department. As the new year starts she'll be doing many inpatient rotations - but we're already at the halfway point! Time has flown by. She is thankful for her co-interns (pictured below) who are going through the exact same thing as her as well as her other co-residents who have been through this before and are happy to help.
Moving to Ann Arbor has been great so far, especially being able to go to Michigan football and basketball games! We've become a part of a new church community and despite our inconsistent schedules, have managed to plug in as much as we can. We don't have any pictures of Kyle working in the Detroit office since he's been flying to other project sites (mainly Charlotte, NC), so the above photo in our Michigan shirts will suffice.
We thank God for bringing us through another crazy year filled with many periods of uncertainty, but also so many moments full of joy and blessing. He truly provides. Tune into next month's post (if we stay on schedule) for some news on the job front for Kyle :)
